SGPS TA and TF Survey Results
In order to better understand the employment experiences of graduate TAs and TFs, the SGPS undertook a survey of its members in May 2008. The aims of the survey were to identify aspects of TA and TF work that members are satisfied with and aspects for which improvement is desired. The results of the survey have now been released in a Final Report (see attached). Overall, the report found that many people enjoy working as a TA and TF in particular the current TA wage and how faculty listen to TA/TF concerns. However, respondents indicated several other areas that require consideration and improvement such as: (1) working more hours than are being paid, (2) lack of transparency in TA and TF appointment processes, (3) TA and TF training, (4) university funded benefits including health, dental and childcare (5) office space (6) a more effective grievance process for TAs and (7) a grievance process for TFs. Each of the concerns raised in the survey have been identified by TAFA as negotiable issues through the collective bargaining process. (See the Join TAFA flyer under Resources link)
